Coolidge-Dawes Lincoln Tour campaign truck photograph
In 1924, Republican presidential candidate Calvin Coolidge organized The Lincoln Tour, a 56-day, cross-country road rally of 100,000 automobiles that was designed to be a continuous political parade along the Lincoln Highway, the first transcontinental road for automobiles in the country. Dr. Winthrop Topliff Doolittle, Sr. (1895-1967), was a Milford, Connecticut, dentist and an avid collector of stamps, coins, campaign buttons and related ephemera. His collection contains approximately 200 political campaign buttons, tobacco and advertising pin-back buttons, pins and medals, the bulk of which date between 1892 and 1920.
